Building Up and Down at the Same Time
The back of the home sat a full story off the grade, with foothill views from above and an unused yard below. Western Sky Designs built an elevated deck off the main floor, a covered patio beneath it, and a black spiral staircase connecting the two.
Light Gray Decking with a Picture-Frame Border
Two Deckorators Voyage colors carry the floor:
- Tundra in light gray as the main field
- Sierra in warm brown as the picture-frame border
The contrast reads clean from the yard and sharp up close. Voyage’s mineral-based composite shrugs off Colorado’s freeze-thaw cycles, won’t absorb moisture, and keeps slip-resistant traction in wet weather.
A Spiral Stair as the Centerpiece
A straight stair run would have eaten half the patio below. The spiral version saves the square footage and adds a sculptural element to the yard, threading down through the deck opening and landing with room to spare for outdoor furniture.
Slim Black Railing, Top to Bottom
Cinch metal railing in satin black wraps the upper perimeter and carries down the staircase, with balusters thin enough to leave the foothill views uninterrupted.
A Dry Patio Underneath
A Trex RainEscape system runs above the joists, channeling rain and snowmelt into gutters and away from the structure. The result is a covered, dry patio with a clean white soffit overhead, finished and furnished as a second outdoor living area rather than wasted space under the deck.
The build delivers two outdoor levels stacked on a single footprint, with the kind of detail work that earns a second look from the street.
