Welcome to Western Sky Designs‘ FAQ page! We’ve compiled answers to some of the most common questions we get about our process, materials, and services. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, just give us a shout—we’re happy to help!

Project & Process

How soon can my project start after approval?

Once we finalize your design and you sign the contract, we typically begin work within 2-4 weeks. The project itself will take about 1-2 weeks, depending on the complexity. If your project requires specific permits or approvals, we’ll handle all the necessary paperwork for you, ensuring there’s no delay.

We get it—things can change during a project. We always prefer finalizing everything before we start, but if you need to make changes during construction, we’ll discuss how it affects cost and timeline. No surprises—just clear, open communication.

We’re serious about getting things right. From precision measurements to utilizing top-quality materials like Deckorators, TimberTech, and MoistureShield. We also adhere to local codes and safety standards.

Of course! We encourage you to see the progress. Please let us know in advance so we can ensure the site is safe and that work is progressing smoothly. We love showing homeowners how things are coming together!

We monitor the weather closely. If rain, snow, or extreme temperatures cause delays, we’ll let you know right away and adjust the schedule to keep things on track. We’ll always keep you updated—no hidden surprises.

Materials & Maintenance

What materials do you use for decks and outdoor structures?

We use premium materials that are built to last. Our go-to brands, such as Deckorators, TimberTech, and MoistureShield, offer warranties ranging from 25 years to lifetime, so you can be confident that your deck will stand the test of time. We also offer wood options, including IPE, mahogany, and cedar, for a classic, natural appearance.

It depends on what materials we use, but it’s pretty simple. For composite decks, regular cleaning is necessary to maintain their appearance. Wood decks will need sealing or staining from time to time to protect them from the elements. We’ll provide a custom care guide based on your materials, so you know exactly what to do.

Absolutely! Many of our composite decking options are made from recycled materials, giving you the confidence to make an informed decision. We would also like to discuss eco-friendly possibilities during your consultation, if that’s important to you.

We don’t cut corners. Every deck we build meets or exceeds local building codes and safety standards. From railing heights to load-bearing requirements, we ensure your deck is built correctly and safely for your family.
